strategic analyst

Lieutenant-colonel Joris van Esch is a strategic analyst at HCSS, where he focuses on strategic security issues, defense transformation, planning, and foresight. He has been commissioned as an Army officer in 1995, and has since served in various command and staff positions in the Royal Netherlands Army.

Prior to his position at HCSS, he worked at the Joint Operations Staff at the Dutch Ministry of Defense. He is a graduate of the Royal Netherlands Military Academy, holds a Master of Science in ICT & Management from CIBIT-Middlesex University, a Master of Military Art and Science (history) from the Command & General Staff College, a Master of Military Art and Science from the School of Advanced Military Studies (both Fort Leavenworth, Kansas).
