Sijbren de Jong is Strategic Analyst at HCSS. He obtained a PhD in EU external energy security relations from the University of Leuven and holds degrees in Economic Geography (MSc, cum laude) from the University of Groningen and Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding (MA, magna cum laude) from the University of Leuven.
After finishing his initial studies in Leuven, Mr. de Jong worked at the Atlantic Initiative in Berlin, a NGO dedicated to the strengthening of transatlantic relations where he was responsible for their project Atlantic-Community.org – the world’s first online foreign policy think tank.
Prior to joining HCSS, Mr. de Jong worked for several years at the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies as a Research Fellow on EU Energy and Climate Policy where he worked extensively as a consultant on projects for the European Institutions on issues of energy security, multilateral governance and security policy. Numerous of Mr. de Jong's articles have been published in peer-reviewed academic journals and books.
