
Strategic Analyst
Teun van Dongen is a strategic analyst and PhD-researcher at HCSS. He studied History at Erasmus University in Rotterdam and International Relations and Diplomacy at Leiden University and the Clingendael Institute. During his studies, he did an internship at the Dutch Permanent Representation at NATO. Mr. Van Dongen is a terrorism / counterterrorism expert, but has also conducted research in the fields of counterinsurgency, extremism, defense transformation and the use of CBRN-weapons. As a policy analyst, he has conducted projects for a wide variety of government actors, such as the European Commission, the Dutch Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Justice and the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism. His skills include benchmarking, risk assessments, policy evaluation and scenario writing. Mr. Van Dongen focuses his PhD research on the relation between types of terrorist organizations and counterterrorism effectiveness. Several of his articles on counterterrorism have been accepted for publication by peer-reviewed academic journals.
